ANNIE JOSEPH
I grew up in the wide open spaces of the western division of NSW and have spent the last 40 years in the beautiful hills and valleys around Lithgow. I love the wonderment of the landscape around me and capturing it through the magic of watercolour.
Life is a search for truth and beauty, for inner peace. In the violence and turbulence of the world which invades our space via the media that search has become more and more essential. As Australians, we have won the lottery of life to live in a place where truth, beauty and peace can still be found. For me, they manifest in my family, and in the landscape around me. To be able to interpret that landscape via painting is certainly one of the joys of my life.
I’ve been painting and drawing all my life. I mostly work in watercolours, landscapes are mostly my subject matter, because there is always some joy and beauty to be found there. I exhibit at annual Shows such as the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Blackheath Art Society, the Society of Mountain Artists, and the Portland, Bathurst and Taralga Art Shows and closer to home, the Rydal Show, The Daffodils at Rydal Festival, and in my own studio as part of our annual Lithgow Arts Trail. I’ve had many solo and group exhibitions over the years and have worked on many publications and projects. All of which adds up to a lot of truth, beauty and lucky for me, inner peace!
