Lithgow based artist Linda Hine’s recent accomplishments include being asked to design Australian themed banners for 2021’s Christmas commission which was be on display along Main Street throughout December.

Linda Hine’s practice started in 1994 when she began taking folk art classes with a Bathurst teacher. The brush control and faux techniques she learnt during this time, like gilding, woodgraining and marbelling, have continued to underpin her practice. As a painter, Linda works with oil, ink, acrylic, and watercolour to explore diverse subject matter such as landscapes, buildings, floral, animals, and abstract motifs.

In respect to the Chrismas banner commission in 2021, commissioned by Lithgow City Council, it allowed her to to bring her love of colour and creating uplifting art to thr project and Linda’s designs featured native flora, a kangaroo with a pouch full of gifts, a lanky Emu, and a candle with an eternal flame honoring the historic Blast Furnace.

“The Christmas banners were an opportunity for Lithgow City Council to support local artists while bringing vibrancy to theretail precinct,” Mayor Ray Thompson said. “Linda Hine’s banners celebrated the unique magic of Christmas in Australia, and I encourage everyone to enjoy her work when shopping locally this December.”

Linda has been teaching art since 1996 and continues to support the development of local artists through classes at Studio FoxWhistle. It will be worthwhile visiting the studio during the trail to see if this is the right feel for you to pursue attending some of Linda’s workshops.
